Cyber Security Tips to Keep Your Small Business Safe

March 16, 2016 by Sudhir Shukla Leave a Comment

One of the essential parts of any business is having a safe and secure computer network to conduct their business. Finding professionals that can provide services like telecom spend management is just as important as increasing your network security. The more information you have on your network, the more security you will need to keep it out of the hands of cyber criminals. The following are a few tips on keeping your computer network safe from cyber criminals.

Cyber Security Tips for Your Small Business

Spyware and Malware Software

One of the most important things you have to get in order to keep your network safe is spyware and malware software. This software will allow you to scan and remove malicious viruses from your network. You need to make sure that the security software you are using stays up to date and functional in order to keep you fully protected. Make sure that all of your employees know how to use and update the software because this is the only way to keep them in the loop on the security of your network.

Safe Social Media Practices

Another very important thing to teach your employees is safe social media practices regarding your business. Without knowing it, one of your employees could be divulging valuable information about your business on a social media site. This could allow your competitors to get a peek behind the curtain and it could lose you customers in the process. You need to create a blanket policy regarding posts about your business on social media pages. The policy should include disciplinary action for anyone who refuses to abide by the rules you have set forth regarding social media posting.

Keep Data Backed Up

The most important part of any computer network is the data that it holds and if the network crashes you need to have the peace of mind that every bit of data is backed up. Backing up your data not only protects you, it protects your customers in the event of a network crash. You can either store the data on an external hard drive or use a cloud service online. The cloud service will automatically backup your data at a specified time each month. This will allow you to worry about running your business instead of backing up data constantly.

The more you are able to find out about your network and where the trouble lies, the easier it will be for you to avoid falling victim to cyber crimes. Allowing professionals to help with this process will make it much easier to secure a network.
